Tunneling in the Modern World

<p>The Civil Engineering Department of HITEC University organized an insightful technical session titled “Tunneling in the Modern World” on October 24, 2024, at 1:00 PM. The session was delivered by Dr. Rao Arsalan Khushnood, Professor and Deputy Director at the Tunneling Institute of Pakistan (TIP), Islamabad, who shared his professional knowledge and practical experience in modern tunneling techniques and underground construction practices. The speaker discussed recent advancements in tunneling technologies, design considerations, construction challenges, risk management, and the importance of tunneling in infrastructure development projects worldwide, with particular reference to projects in Pakistan. Faculty members and students actively participated in the session, making it an engaging learning experience that enhanced their understanding of geotechnical considerations and innovative construction methodologies in tunnel engineering. The session reflected the department’s commitment to providing exposure to emerging engineering technologies and bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry practices.</p>
