Program Mission Statement

BS Islamic Studies Program at HITEC University offers a broad based scheme, focusing on Quran and Sunnah as Primary Sources of Knowledge and incites the Urge for Research to Seek and deliver Solutions to Problems. The Course exhorts the Students to groom into Proactive and effective members of the Society, as deemed essential by Islam.

Program Objectives

To produce BS qualified Islamic Studies professionals with following attributes:

  1. To prepare students to be able to pursue higher degrees (both taught and research based) in reputable universities.
  2. To prepare students to pursue professional academia jobs in institutions.
  3. To impart students the sufficient knowledge of ijtihad, Islamic Shariah, Islamic philosophy, and international relations.
  4. To inculcate high moral values and good Islamic ethics.
Curriculum Design

Curriculum of BS Islamic Studies is carefully designed for a Four year degree program comprising of 44 courses, followed by research Project, fully adhering to the requirements of Higher Education Commission. Research topics for BS students pertain to contemporary socio-political and economic issues, ijtihad, objectives of Islamic Shariah, Islamic philosophy, Contemporary Muslim world & Movements, Islamic world view and contemporary study of major world religions etc.

Program Outcomes
  1. Students shall possess required pre-requisites for admission to higher degrees in reputable universities.
  2. Students shall have required applied and practical knowledge and skills to pursue academia jobs in institutions and universities.
  3. Students shall be well-rounded not only in the discipline of Islamic Philosophy but also in related inter-disciplinary fields of science.
  4. Students shall possess sufficient knowledge to pursue an academia job.
  5. Students shall be well-versed in modern day technologies in the field of Islamic Studies and in related disciplines.
  6. Students shall be able to become entrepreneurs in their fields of interest. They shall possess leadership, decision making and risk-taking qualities necessary to compete, lead and succeed in a hugely competitive market. They shall possess problem solving skills and innovative ideas to be unique.
  7. Students shall treat fairly all persons regardless of race, religion, gender, disability, age or regional origin. Students shall avoid conflicts at work places.
Program Objectives

The Department offers MS in Islamic Studies; it is a broad based program, focusing on contemporary socio-political and economic issues, Ijtihad, objectives of Islamic Shariah, Islamic philosophy, International relations, Islamic worldview and contemporary study of major world religions. Researchers are encouraged to work on practical issues to fulfil the needs of our society in particular and humanity in large. The MS degree is awarded after completion of 30 credit hours, 24 of which are course work. The remaining 6 credit hours can be completed either by writing a research thesis or by taking 2 additional courses from the list of offered subjects in respective semester.

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Islamic Studies is the highest degree awarded by the Department. The program comprises 18 credit hours of course work and 30 credit hours of research thesis. The courses are selected in consultation with the thesis supervisor. The progress of student is continuously monitored through the Guidance and Evaluation Committee (GEC).

The students eligible for admittance in Ph.D. program should possess MS/M.Phil. Degree with a minimum CGPA 3 out of 4 and should have passed GAT subject examination as per requirement of HEC, in vogue.

The completion of course work is followed by comprehensive examination for granting candidacy as a Ph.D. Scholar. The program necessitates two years of residency in HITEC University.

One local and two foreign experts from technologically more advanced countries evaluate the Ph.D. thesis, as per requirement of the HEC. After positive evaluation from these experts, the Ph.D. Scholar is required to undergo through an open defense to fulfill the degree requirements.

The degree is awarded in recognition of high level of scholarship, the ability to carry out independent research, and the publication of such research in national and international journals of repute.

The Department encourages the researchers to work on current problems and futuristic issues related to the renaissance of Islamic thought, philosophy and scientific knowledge, leading to the ultimate truth.

Curriculum Design

Curriculum of PhD Islamic Studies is carefully designed for a Three year degree program comprising of 6 courses to choose from the list given, followed by research thesis, fully adhering to the Higher Education Commission. Research topics for PhD students pertain to contemporary socio-political and economic issues, ijtihad, objectives of Islamic Shariah, Islamic philosophy, international relations, Islamic worldview and contemporary study of major world religions etc.
