Chairperson's Message
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in Spring 2014. In July 2019, it was renamed the Department of Computer Science (DCS) by the Punjab Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. The department's goal is to provide high-quality education to its students. It not only focuses on developing student's technical and practical skills but also aims to instill in them a sense of responsibility towards humanity. The department has recruited highly qualified, experienced, research-focused, and professionally adept faculty for its various academic programs. It has also set up dedicated, spacious, and well-equipped laboratories to offer state-of-the-art facilities for research, development, teaching, and learning.
The curriculum of each program meets industry requirements and aligns with the criteria set by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and the National Computing Education Accreditation Council. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BS CS) program is designed to produce professionals with strong computing knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking skills in problem design and analysis. The curriculum covers four main areas of computer science: computing, artificial intelligence, data science, and information security. Through the curriculum and laboratory work, graduates are prepared to excel in industry, academia, and research both domestically and internationally. The Software Engineering program focuses on applying a systematic, disciplined, and measurable approach to designing, developing, operating, and maintaining software systems. It aims to equip graduates with the skills to effectively apply emerging software engineering knowledge to meet future challenges. Graduates will be capable of designing and implementing large, reliable, efficient, and cost- effective software by applying engineering principles and practices throughout the software life cycle.
The department also offers an MS program in Computer Science, which began in Fall 2014, to expand students' knowledge of computing and bridge the gap between graduate-level knowledge and cutting-edge research methodologies and technologies. This program enables students to acquire advanced knowledge in computer science through specialized courses. Additionally, the department plans to introduce an MS program in Software Engineering from Fall 2021. In Spring 2019, the DCS initiated a PhD program in Computer Science, providing full-time study opportunities for advanced study and research. PhD scholars are expected to integrate their professional education and experience to solve complex problems through innovative approaches.
In response to the increasing demand for professionals with specialized skills in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, the Department of Computer Science (DCS) has introduced a Bachelor of Science program in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity. This program, slated to begin in the Fall 2023 academic year, is designed to equip students with the necessary expertise to tackle the complexities of modern technological landscapes.
The curriculum for this program will delve into advanced topics such as machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, and cryptography. Students will learn to develop intelligent systems capable of analyzing vast amounts of data and making informed decisions, while also gaining a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles and techniques to safeguard sensitive information and networks from cyber threats.
Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience, graduates of this program will emerge with the skills and confidence to address the evolving challenges in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity domains. They will be well-prepared to pursue careers in a variety of industries, including technology firms, government agencies, financial institutions, and beyond, where expertise in both artificial intelligence and cybersecurity is increasingly valued and sought after.
The Department of Computer Science is committed to providing an innovative and comprehensive education in this cutting-edge field, empowering students to make meaningful contributions to society and to thrive in a rapidly changing digital world.
In addition to academic pursuits, the department emphasizes personality development and character building through extracurricular activities within and outside HITEC University. It aims to nurture students to become innovators and leaders in their respective fields. Prospective students are encouraged to consider the department as a place to pursue an exciting career in one of the most promising academic fields.
Pursue the journey of innovation, wisdom, and excellence.
Best Wishes.
